Hard to deal

Posted in Group:

Well hello all. I am a 22 year old college student who has been binging for about four years on and off. I do it mostly due to stress and sometimes depression. Mainly, I have a wonderful life that is unfortunatly controled by my addiction to food. It is very hard to break this cycle, but I'm trying everything in my power to stop this horrible habit. I did use laxatives on and off for a few months, but that was really messing with my guts. I can at least control that part now. I worry that I may have done some damage to my digestive tract though. Would it be a good idea to see someone about this? Anyways, I am starting a food journal today and recording my feelings and all that good stuff. Anybody have some more ideas for me?

If you're in college, your school may have free anonymous counseling services. I'm a big fan of this. I've been "sober" (that's what I call being binge-free) for over a month, and it's only been possible with the help of a therapist.

For me, it was not just about being aware of my feelings, but it was also about understanding that the empty feeling I have before I have a binge is really the feeling that I'm not good enough. And ultimately, eating lots of food really fast is only a temporary fix - a drug that only postpones the inevitable.
